SEOUL, August 05 (AJU PRESS) - Law enforcement officials apprehended a 48-year-old transgender individual in Bangkok on Saturday evening, accused of defrauding a man from Japan, the Bangkok Post reported. This incident is reportedly part of a series of similar offenses spanning a decade, primarily targeting Japanese nationals, with total losses estimated at approximately 26 million baht ($737,633.00).

Police sources revealed that the arrest of the suspect, identified as Uthai Nanthakhan, also known as Amy, came after a 36-year-old Japanese man filed a complaint at the local precinct.

The complainant stated he had become acquainted with Uthai in January. During their encounters, the accused allegedly presented herself as a tourist from Hong Kong. After several meetings, she purportedly manipulated him into providing financial assistance, according to the report.

Authorities report that the suspect's typical modus operandi involved telling victims, predominantly men from Japan, that she had misplaced her personal belongings and travel documents during her trip. She would then request monetary help for various purposes, including obtaining new identification, purchasing medication, covering medical expenses, and securing insurance.

Law enforcement officials noted that this pattern of behavior was consistently employed to exploit the victims' sympathy and generosity.

The suspect's criminal activities allegedly date back to 2011, with a total of 73 individuals falling victim to the scheme, resulting in cumulative losses of around 26 million baht.
