SEOUL, August 5 (AJU PRESS) - LS Cable & Systems, a Korean power cable maker, has commenced construction of factories in Mexico to produce bus ducts, a new type of electricity distribution system, and electric vehicle battery components.

LS Cable said Sunday that it is building two plants in an industrial complex in Querétaro, Mexico. The facilities, covering 126,000 square meters, are scheduled to begin mass production in the second half of 2025. The cable maker aims to develop the site as its export base for the North American market.

Bus ducts, typically installed in high-rise buildings, offer greater efficiency and convenience compared to conventional cables. Containing either aluminum or copper busbars, bus ducts are primarily used for large-scale electrical transmission. This system is easier to install and maintain and can significantly reduce power usage.

The Mexico facility will be LS Cable’s fourth bus duct production base, following its plants in Korea and China and its subsidiary LS Eco & Energy's plant in Viet Nam. The bus ducts will be supplied to electric vehicle, battery and semiconductor factories and AI data centers.

LS Cable said the new battery components factory in Mexico will become a key production base alongside its plant in Poland. Mexico is considered an optimal location due to its low labor costs and the benefits of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), according to the company.
