Kim, who previously served as Google's Asia-Pacific director of government affairs and public policy for consumer products, will begin his new role on Sept. 3.
The position focuses on promoting economic development in developing countries through digital infrastructure, cybersecurity and digital government initiatives.
Kim is the first Korean national to be appointed to a vice president position at the World Bank. Jim Yong Kim, an American of Korean descent, served as president of the bank from 2012 to 2019.
