SEOUL, July 30 (AJU PRESS) - The "ASEAN-Korea Youth Network Workshop," set to take place in Seoul and Laos, aims to enhance communication between young people from Korea and ASEAN countries and engage them in discussions about digitalization and climate change, the ASEAN-Korea Center said Tuesday.

The ASEAN-Korea Youth Workshop, an annual event since its inception in 2012, is designed to connect young people from Korea with their counterparts from ASEAN member countries, focusing on global issues.

According to the ASEAN-Korea Center, a total of 50 university and post-graduate students will participate in the four-day workshop program starting Wednesday. Participants were selected based on recommendations from 10 ASEAN country embassies in Seoul.

The Seoul program will be co-hosted by the Seoul National University Asia Center (SNUAC), and the Laos program will be co-hosted by the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union (LYU), a state-operated youth organization.

Participants will attend lectures on sustainability, climate change, digitalization, and other important issues in the ASEAN region. They will work on team projects, participate in field trips, and engage in cultural activities to foster mutual understanding and collaboration.

Key figures at the workshop will include ASEAN-Korean Center Secretary General Kim Jae-shin, Lao Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Songkhane Luangmuninthone, and Lao Foreign Ministry's ASEAN Bureau Head Chatoulong Bouasisavath. They will encourage and inspire the young participants.

"We expect this workshop to serve as an important platform empowering young leaders to tackle and overcome global challenges. We hope the ASEAN-Korea partnership will become even stronger through cooperation and mutual understanding. This year, the focus on digitalization and climate change makes the workshop particularly significant," Kim said.
