With speeds of up to 32Gbps, expandable to 40Gbps in certain environments, GDDR7 can process over 1.5TB of data per second when integrated with the latest graphics cards, the company said. This is equivalent to processing 300 Full-HD movies in just one second.
To manage the heat generated by high-speed data processing, SK hynix has implemented new packaging technology. Engineers increased the heat-dissipating substrate layers from four to six and used high-heat-dissipation EMC, reducing thermal resistance by 74 percent compared to the previous generation.
Lee Sang-kwon, vice president of DRAM product planning, said GDDR7's superior speed and power efficiency make it suitable for high-spec 3D graphics, AI, high-performance computing and autonomous driving applications.
SK hynix plans to begin mass production of GDDR7 in the third quarter of this year.
