SEOUL, July 29 (AJU PRESS) - To mark the 60th anniversary of sending troops to the Viet Nam War, around 175,000 Korean war veterans are set to be honored with new uniforms starting this week, according to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.

Since late May, the ministry has been accepting applications, and about 75 percent of them or about 132,000 eligible veterans have signed up for a set of beige-colored uniforms which include a jacket, trousers, and ties.

During the war which lasted almost 20 years starting from1955, Korea sent approximately 320,000 soldiers to the Southeast Asian country. It was Korea's first and largest overseas deployment.

Despite their meritorious service, many of these veterans currently struggle with financial hardships, receiving only minimal allowances. They also still suffer from war-related illnesses and various side-effects.

The ministry hopes the new uniforms, which honor their sacrifice during the war, will make them proud.
