Visiting the cemetery has become a customary practice for many politicians before assuming their roles, as they pay respects to deceased political figures, war veterans, and freedom fighters who contributed to the country's development.
The new PPP leader offered flowers at the cemetery's main memorial altar and left a message in the guestbook that read, "I will listen more, explain more, and persuade more to win the hearts of the people and lead them to the future."
Later in the day, Han is scheduled to have a dinner meeting hosted by President Yoon Suk Yeol at the presidential office. The gathering will also include other PPP lawmakers who ran in the leadership race — former Land Minister Won Hee-ryong, five-term politician Na Kyung-won, and veteran lawmaker Yoon Sang-hyun.
The 51-year-old became the new PPP leader by securing a majority vote of 62.84 percent (320,702 votes) at the party's national convention the previous day.
