SEOUL, July 15 (AJU PRESS) - LG Electronics has become the first Korean company to receive a certification from global testing and certification firm DNV for a low-profile Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR). This certification, crucial for European exports, verifies the robot's safety design and redundant control functions.
The AMR, an advanced logistics robot that autonomously navigates, utilizes a safety controller that monitors sensor signals in real-time to ensure safe deceleration and stopping when detecting risks. LG previously a certification for its mobile robot drive safety controller in 2022.
The certified drive safety controller, designed as a single module, is applicable to various robots and meets North American UL functional safety requirements. LG plans to leverage this certification to accelerate its robotics and smart factory businesses, enhancing product safety reliability and competitiveness.
LG is currently using Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and AMRs in its Tennessee factory and Changwon Smart Park. The company offers various AMR types, including low-profile, heavy-load, and conveyor-integrated models.
Baek Seung-min, head of LG's Robot Advanced Research Lab, said the company will continue to develop safety design and certification solutions to lead in AMR safety technology. LG is also expanding its smart factory solutions, combining industrial robotics with AI, big data, and communication technologies to provide comprehensive solutions from planning to operation.
