SEOUL, July 12 (AJU PRESS) - Director Hong Sang-soo's latest film has been invited to the Locarno Film Festival to be held in Switzerland next month.

"By the Stream," also known as "Suyoocheon" in Korean, will compete at the international section of the festival along with 16 other films, the festival's organizers said Thursday.

The film is about a university lecturer asking her unemployed uncle to direct a skit. The film is Hong's 32nd feature and his fourth to be nominated for an award at the festival, following "Our Sunhi" (2013), "Right Now, Wrong Than" (2015), and "Hotel by the River" (2018).

It stars Hong's muse Kim Min-hee in her 15th collaboration with Hong. The actress has been involved in a May-to-September romance with Hong since 2016.

Kim, known for "The Handmaiden" (2016), once considered one of the most promising actresses in Korea, now only appears in Hong's micro-budget movies.

"By the Stream" will premiere at the festival, scheduled from Aug. 7 to 17, and is expected to be released in Korea in the second half of this year.
