SEOUL, June 28 (AJU PRESS) - SK Group, South Korea's second-largest conglomerate, began a two-day top management meeting Friday to discuss growth strategies and subsidiary restructuring.

About 30 executives, including CEOs from major subsidiaries including SK Corp., SK Innovation, SK Telecom and SK hynix, gathered at the SKMS Research Institute in Icheon. Chairman Chey Tae-won is participating via video conference from the U.S.

The meeting aims to maximize investment in future growth sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and biotechnology.

It has drawn particular attention due to reports of possible rebalancing measures for SK On, the group's struggling battery company.

Options under consideration reportedly include merging holding company SK Innovation with SK E&S, combining SK On with SK Enmove, and divesting stakes in SK IE Technology. The group is also looking to optimize business structures at SK Innovation, SK E&S and SK Eco Plant.

This strategic gathering also comes amid focus on Chey's recent divorce settlement. On May 28, the Seoul High Court ordered him to pay 1.38 trillion won ($1 billion) in property division and 2 billion won in alimony to his estranged wife, Noh So-young, marking the country’s largest-ever divorce settlement.

Concerns have arisen about the settlement's possible impact on Chey's control over the group.

He currently maintains control through SK Inc., which holds stakes in subsidiaries including SK Telecom (30.57 percent) and SK Innovation (36.22 percent).

A group spokesperson said while the meeting establishes management principles, specific plans will be finalized by individual subsidiaries later.

Notably, Chey's eldest daughter, Chey Yoon-chung, head of SK Biopharmaceuticals, is attending the strategy meeting for the first time.
