SEOUL, June 27 (AJU PRESS) - Korea will assume the chairmanship of the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP), with Second Vice Foreign Minister Kang In-sun as the chairperson, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

MSP is an international initiative aimed at ensuring a stable and diversified global supply chain for critical minerals essential for sectors such as semiconductors, batteries, and clean energy. Securing stable global supply networks is a crucial task for Korea, a country whose future growth engines heavily depend on imports of critical minerals.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Korea will assume the year-long chairmanship starting July 1, following the U.S., and will lead cooperation among MSP member countries "to achieve tangible and concrete outcomes from its ongoing pilot projects."

Korea will also set long-term goals for the MSP and host senior representative meetings twice a year.

"This assumption of the chairmanship is expected to be an important opportunity for Korea to demonstrate leadership in the core minerals supply chain sector, expand economic security, and enhance Korea's status as a pivotal global nation," the spokesperson said.
