SEOUL, June 17 (AJU PRESS) - Korea and China are scheduled to hold their first round of diplomatic and security dialogue on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday.
The high-level meeting between Korean and Chinese government officials follows their agreement at a trilateral summit held in Seoul late last month, attended by President Yoon Suk-yeol, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The Foreign Ministry here said that Korean officials, including Kim Hong-kyun, the first vice minister of foreign affairs, and Lee Seung-beom, director-general for international policy at the Ministry of National Defense, will have talks with their Chinese counterparts, Sun Weidong, vice minister of foreign affairs, and Zhang Baoqun, deputy director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission.
The discussions are expected to cover various issues including bilateral relations between the two countries, diplomatic and security issues on the Korean Peninsula, and other mutual concerns.
Originally launched after the Korea-China summit in June 2013, the dialogue was held in Beijing in 2013 and in Seoul in 2015. However, it was suspended indefinitely in 2016 due to a spat over the deployment of the U.S.' Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery here.
