SEOUL, June 11 (AJU PRESS) - LG Uplus Corp., a telecom carrier, and DeePX, a tech startup, have signed a deal to jointly develop on-device artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

Under the agreement, LG Uplus will design customized on-device AI solutions incorporating its ixi-GEN generative AI technology, and DeePX will develop and optimize neural processing units (NPUs) to run the solutions on various devices such as robots, home appliances, and smart mobility systems.

NPUs are processors specialized in processing information and making inferences like the human brain, enabling efficient AI computation with low power consumption compared to graphics processing units (GPUs) commonly used for AI currently.

"We expect LG Uplus' AI technology and DeePX's fabless expertise to create great synergies in the new on-device AI market," said Kwon Yong-hyun, head of LG Uplus' enterprise division. "We will continue exploring new business opportunities to deliver differentiated customer value."

Kim Lok-won, CEO of DeePX, said the partnership will allow the company to apply its on-device AI semiconductor technology across various devices and develop business-to-business and business-to-consumer AI applications and services based on the NPUs.
