Replacing the old initiative of "Dream, Design, Play," the new slogan "Amazing Tomorrow" embodies Seoul's commitment to mesmerize both Koreans and foreigners for the next decade with DDP's futuristic architectural design and cutting-edge construction technology.
"We will continue to strive to establish DDP as a global hub for exhibitions and conventions," Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said during the celebration event. "DDP has now become Seoul's landmark, offering growth opportunities for businesses and serving as a destination where both Seoulites and tourists can explore design, art and other experiential offerings."
"The number of visitors to DDP has reached a record high of 13.75 million in 2023, marking a significant increase from 6.88 million in its foundation year of 2014," the mayor said, highlighting that it was also designated as a must-visit destination by the New York Times in 2015.
About 300 people attended the event hosted by the Seoul Design Foundation. Attendees also had the opportunity to view artworks at the event venue. Prior to the slogan ceremony, a forum was held under the theme of "Amazing Tomorrow: Dreaming of Seoul's Amazing Future" to discuss DDP's direction for the next 10 years.
Designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, DDP's massive structure features a futuristic facade with sleek, curved contours. Annually, it hosts over 100 events including fashion showcases featuring K-pop celebrities. The vibrant design hub has amassed a total revenue of 16.6 billion won ($11.9 million) in 2023 alone.
DDP occupies the former site of Dongdaemun Stadium, a sports arena built in 1925. As part of Seoul City's renovation project in 2007, the stadium was demolished to pave the way for the development of a public area capable of serving as both a park and an exhibition center.
