SEOUL -- Multinational boy band Seventeen is set to engage with global fans in Berlin through Lollapalooza, a renowned international music event, as its headliner. The 13-member band will participate in the annual music festival along with English singer-songwriter Sam Smith and Martin Garrix, a Dutch DJ and record producer.
According to Pledis Entertainment, the group's agency, Seventeen will headline the Lollapalooza Berlin, a two-day event scheduled to take place starting on September 7. The headliner role is usually given to the most notable or prominent artists. Among many performers, headliners mostly appear on the stage at the end and perform for the longest time. This year, the Lollapalooza event will take place at the Olympiastadion Berlin, a sports stadium with a capacity of some 74,000 people.
Lollapalooza is an annual global festival that was held in various countries including the United States, Chile, and Brazil. Seventeen is the only K-pop group to take part in this year's festival.
The boy band debuted in May 2015 and won the "World Performer Award" at the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), an annual music festival in Hong Kong. In 2023, the group sold a total of 16 million copies of its albums. Additionally, during its Japan tour that year, Seventeen drew in approximately 515,000 fans through 12 concerts.
