LAS VEGAS -- Hyundai Mobis, the car parts-making wing of Hyundai auto group, has unveiled its demonstration electric vehicle, "MOBION," at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest annual electronics exhibition in Las Vegas.
This marks the first global introduction of MOBION by the car parts maker, featuring an innovative "e-Corner System." This system allows for unique motion techniques, such as crab-walking for sideways movement and executing a 180-degree turn, achieved through advanced in-wheel drive systems. The test vehicle was showcased on January 9 (local time) on the first day of the three-day global event.
Unlike traditional electric vehicles (EVs) with a single motor or dual motors, Hyundai's in-wheel drive system, initially showcased in 2023, integrates a motorized drive system inside each vehicle wheel. This enables individual wheel control, facilitating movements previously impossible for conventional cars.
"The MOBION represents the embodiment of Hyundai Mobis' core technologies, all of which are ready for immediate mass production," said Lee Seung-hwan, the head of Hyundai Mobis' Advanced Engineering Division. "Always striving to shift the mobility paradigm with vehicles, Mobis created MOBION to showcase our key products and capabilities," Lee added.
