SEOUL -- BTS agency has released a digital single created by combining the voice of a human artist and artificial intelligence-based voice synthesis technology. The new single titled "Masquerade" is available in six languages -- Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Masquerade, rolled out on May 15, was produced after Lee Hyun, a member of disbanded vocal group 8Eight, sang the song in six languages. Using AI voice synthesis technology by AI startup Supertone, Lee's pronunciation and accent were properly fixed. The 39-year-old told reporters that the female voice featured in the digital single was also realized by transforming his voice.

Supertone has produced films, animations, audiobooks, and games using its sound technique. On January 31, Hybe secured a 56.1 percent stake in Supertone by investing 45 billion won ($36.5 million). The AI company has earlier provided sound technology for Disney+'s drama series "Big Bet" to reproduce the voice of Choi Min-sik, a 60-year-old veteran actor who was playing the role of a young character in his 30s.

BTS creator Bang Si-hyuk said in an interview with Billboard that the development of generative AI technology is one of his agency's main strategies. Generative AI services are used to produce on-demand images and text. According to Acumen Research and Consulting, a market research firm, the global generative AI market is estimated to reach $110.8 billion in 2030.
