Metaverse, which allows users to engage in social, cultural, and economic activities using avatars, is steadily gaining momentum among domestic universities. Cheongju University, about 112 kilometers (96 miles) south of Seoul, partnered with mobile carrier LG Uplus in November 2022 to build a virtual campus where students can take classes and receive career-related advice.
Jeonghwa Arts College, located in central Seoul, signed an agreement with KT and Dot-mill to develop and operate a virtual online university platform called "Metaversity." A multi-screen function will be adopted so that students can take classes that require many different firsthand experiences. Administrative tasks and business meetings will also be carried out at the virtual clone of the art school.
Through a non-fungible token (NFT)-based academic management system, the virtual university will prevent the forgery of educational and career-related experiences. Because each NFT is certified as a unique digital asset that is not interchangeable, it is used in various sectors where proof of ownership is essential. Jeongwha is currently offering on-site training courses for students to gain real-life work experience. Those who completed the job training classes can graduate one semester early.
"We will contribute to leading the digital beauty sector in South Korea by closely working with KT and Dot-mill," Jeongwha Arts College president Han Ki-jeong said in a statement on February 20.
