As the first automaker which has built a global NFT community, Hyundai Motor launched an official website on May 2, as well as dedicated channels on Twitter and Discord, a VoIP, instant messaging and digital distribution platform. The company has revealed its NFT universe concept, Metamobility, by partnering with Meta Kongz, a hotshot of the NFT scene.
On May 9-10, Hyundai Motor will sell 10,000 official Ethereum-based "Shooting Star" NFTs on its official NFT website. The company would change its minting system in a sustainable way. Pre-sale for whitelist buyers will be on May 9, followed by a general sale on May 10. A whitelist in the NFT world is a list of people who get early and guaranteed access to mint at a specific date and window of time.
The sale of an NFT in the form of a shooting star will be followed by the latest film of "Hyundai x Meta Kongz," which ends with "Kongz" finding a shooting star stuck in a Hyundai Pony windshield wiper. "Hyundai x Meta Kongz" limited edition NFTs were sold out soon after they were released on April 20.
Hyundai operates communications channels for its NFT community so that members can post their own memes and fan art. A "Reveal" method was applied, showing a placeholder image first and revealing actual individual NFT images later. Some 10,000 placeholder "Shooting Star" NFTs will be turned into unique metamobility NFTs in various shapes in late May.
"Starting with our 'Shooting Star' NFTs, we are expanding the Hyundai brand experience into the 'Metamobility universe,' creating unique opportunities for our NFT community members to join in the fun," Global chief marketing officer Thomas Schemera said in a statement on May 3. "We plan to launch more unique NFTs based on the ‘Metamobility universe’ concept and introduce more member benefits to expand the community going forward."
NFT is a unit of data stored on a blockchain network of interlinked virtual ledgers. Each NFT is certified by a blockchain as a unique digital asset that is not interchangeable. The technology can be used in the content industry where proof of ownership is crucial. In March, the design center of Kia Motors, affiliated with the Hyundai auto group, crafted six NFTs based on three electric vehicles. A total of 60 NFT pieces, 10 for each work, were sold for a week from March 26 through an NFT art market service.
