Amorepacific develops world's first smart tactile sensor to measure skin sensations

SEOUL -- South Korea's top beauty product maker Amorepacific has developed an artificial intelligence-based tactile sensor that can measure skin sensations. The sensor developed through cooperation with a state research institute recognizes the degree of moisture and coolness that humans feel through their skin and converts them into digital values. Data collected through the tactile sensor can be used to develop new beauty products.

Amorepacific said in a statement on January 26 that the ultra-thin sensor, capable of measuring the degree of moisture and coolness felt through human skin, is the world's first tactile sensor that can be attached to the skin. The sensor operates without any problems regardless of external pressure and deformation. It was developed through collaboration with the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST).

According to Park Young-ho, head of Amorepacific's R&D center, the sensor will provide objective demonstration results because it is capable of measuring the cool and warm sensations that are felt through the skin after applying beauty products. Currently, cosmetics makers rely on the subjective opinions of groups of human testers to collect data about the post-application skin sensation.
