LG Electronics said that the use of P-OLED display technology enables the infotainment system to deliver clear, sharp images and texts, along with slim bezels with no physical knobs. Occupants can get an intuitive touch interface with refined haptics for a user experience with a minimal learning curve.
A technological advance in electric and self-driving vehicles increases the importance of interior design and the need for differentiated products. Infotainment systems are the heart of connected cars that provide various features such as navigation, self-diagnostics, entertainment and vehicle controls. LG Electronics has developed new in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems to provide differentiated services and connectivity.
The IVI system for EQS EV consists of three screens including an instrument cluster display, a central information display and a co-driver display under a bonded glass cover to give the appearance of a single, continuous display, LG said, adding its system was specifically designed to meet the needs of Mercedes-Benz AG with a curved, panoramic form factor.
LG said that engineers from the companies were taking in-vehicle displays such as instrument panels and navigation systems to a new level, providing drivers and passengers with greater convenience and control of their on-road experience. "Being named a valued supplier of automotive displays by Mercedes-Benz AG last year gives us immense pride in knowing that the partnership is showing great results," LG's vehicle component solutions division head Eun Seok-hyun said in a statement on January 12.
The IVI system features new technologies that perform well above minimum standards for head-on and collisions. Drivers and passengers can use each screen independently.
In February 2020, LG's curved P-OLED digital cockpit solution was first used for the 2021 version of Cadillac's iconic sport utility vehicle, Escalade. The display was comprised of three panels that make up the instrument panel cluster for displaying basic vehicle-related information and an Integrated central stack that serves as an infotainment display for audio, video and navigation content. Escalade's system features augmented reality-enabled navigation and night vision.
