PLC is the key part of power plant automation. It controls, monitors and manages the safety of power plant generators and nuclear reactors. Foreign PLCs are very expensive and it takes a long time to repair a control unit in case of break-downs. Korea Western Power spends more than two billion won ($1.6 million) annually to purchase and manage foreign PLC units.
Korea Western Power said on October 18 that it would work with LS Electric to develop and commercialize PLC units that will be applied to renewable power generators. In 2020, LS Electric joined an all-star team of domestic and foreign companies that joined hands to secure core technologies and develop a competitive model for floating offshore wind farms at home and abroad. The team also involves Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and SK Engineering and Construction.
