Submarine cables are laid down by using specially modified vessels. GL2030 will be used in South Korea's submarine cable business starting in the first half of 2022, LS C&S said, adding it would expand its participation in overseas underwater cable projects as it will be able to adjust its schedule in a flexible manner.
LS C&S has been involved in a number of projects abroad. However, the company had difficulties in adjusting construction schedules and securing quality due to the lack of an exclusive vessel for laying undersea power cables.
In November 2020, LS C&S secured a five-year deal to supply high voltage export cables for offshore wind farms to Orsted, a Danish power company. Through business ties with Orsted, the South Korean company has supplied cables for the Hornsea wind farm project in the North Sea and for the Changhua offshore wind farm project in Taiwan.
