SEOUL -- Adam Woolway, the founder of Plugsurfing, an app empowering electric vehicle drivers to find and pay for charging throughout Europe, has been named as CEO of Alluto, a joint venture established by South Korea's LG Electronics to develop upgraded automotive solutions including digital cockpits. Alluto headquarters in Santa Clara, California, will be officially launched on March 15.
LG Electronics said that the joint venture with Luxoft, a Swiss-based software company, would focus on digital cockpits, in-vehicle infotainment, passenger-seat entertainment and ride-hailing systems based on webOS Auto, a car infotainment solution, which was integrated into Microsoft's connected vehicle platform.
"With Alluto, carmakers can now tap into the vibrant webOS ecosystem from the edge to cloud and have a new, powerful alternative to innovate and differentiate future mobility experiences," said LG's chief technology officer Park Il-pyung.
LG Electronics has accelerated its push for a car infotainment and component industry that began in 2018 with the acquisition of ZKW Group, an Austrian automotive lighting system producer. In January 2020, LG Electronics partnered with Cerence, a U.S. automotive software company, to create a convenient in-car experience through voice commands that allow drivers and passengers to have better control over car functions, navigation and multimedia content.
In February 2021, LG Electronics split its electric vehicle powertrain business for the establishment of a joint venture with Canada's mobility technology company Magna International to manufacture electric motors (e-motors), inverters and onboard chargers for electric vehicles, along with electric powertrain systems.
