SEOUL -- Samsung Electro-Mechanics, an electronic component maker in South Korea, unveiled a super-slim multilayer ceramic capacitor which is 18 percent thinner than previous products to increase the freedom of 5G smartphone design in response to the industry's growing demand for slim components and multi-functional and high-performance requirements.
A multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) works as a dam that temporarily charges and discharges electricity. It controls the stable flow of current within electric product circuits and is necessary for related products, including smartphones, home appliance products, and automobiles.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics said in a statement on January 20 that the company's new 0.65mm ultra-slim 3-socket MLCC allows for an easy reduction in high-frequency power noise, citing an increase in requests for slimmer components and the increase in the number of components.
"There has been a massive increase in miniature, high-performance, and highly-reliable MLCC demand with the commercialization of 5G mobile communication and electrification of automobiles," said Samsung Electro-Mechanics' component unit head Kim Doo-young. The company said that earth sockets were added to efficiently remove high-frequency noise occurring from the application processor power unit.
