SEOUL -- LG Electronics teamed up with Naver, a leading portal service operator in South Korea, to provide digital education solutions and develop a cloud-based laptop that supports a convenient user experience through the operating system of Naver's freeware web browser.
LG said in a statement on January 8 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Naver to expand smart education through their software, hardware and distribution capabilities. They would develop a laptop optimized for Naver's education platform and activate a related ecosystem by linking various products and platforms to find business opportunities.
Kim Hyo, who heads Naver Whale, a freeware web browser that is available in English and Korean, said the partnership is designed to create a case of digital education innovation. "We will expand the scope of joint projects in the future to provide various platforms that users can feel more substantially."
"The demand for smart education is growing due to the expansion of digital textbooks and online classes," said LG's IT business division head Jang Ik-hwan. "We will work hard to find and expand the scope of cooperation that can create synergy while taking the lead in disseminating various digital education solutions by combining the technologies and core capabilities of the two companies."
