AI is used in the manufacturing sector as a tool to detect machine malfunctions and analyze operational data to maximize output. Using cameras and various sensors, AI-based manufacturing platforms can effectively manage the quality of products.
The Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) said in a statement on September 9 that it would work with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to establish "Korea AI Manufacturing Platform" (KAMP) to provide a high-quality AI-based data analytics service.
KAIST said it would utilize infrastructure resources such as high-volume data storage systems and graphic processing units owned by a consortium of private cloud computing companies NHN and KT. Data collected from manufacturing plants will be processed by an AI manufacturing platform.
Since 5G mobile communication was commercialized in 2019, various government projects have been launched to help manufacturers adopt 5G-connected smart factories using AI for quality control. Connected AI technology helps farmers establish smart farms. AI-based systems control the humidity and light of indoor farms to efficiently grow crops while notifying farmers when it's time to harvest.
