Samsung's smartwatch was equipped with an electrocardiogram measuring sensor, but its function was disabled in South Korea. With approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the electrocardiogram function will be available on Samsung's smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active2, within the third quarter.
The electrocardiogram function enables users to measure and analyze their heart rhythm for irregularities indicating atrial fibrillation, the most common abnormal heart rhythm, Samsung said, adding that users can conveniently measure both electrocardiogram and blood pressure and share recordings with doctors.
Samsung's smartwatch blood pressure app was approved in April. The software conveniently measures blood pressure through pulse wave analysis, which is tracked with heart rate monitoring sensors. Users can simply tap to measure their blood pressure by calibrating Galaxy Watch Active 2.
Samsung's Galaxy Watch Active 2 comes with more sensitive and accurate heart rate monitoring sensors and enables users to track their exercise, sleep, stress and get added healthcare insights. The value of blood pressure, measured by the smartwatch, is transferred to the smartphone via Bluetooth. Measured blood pressure values or stored information are compared to check the change in the user's blood pressure.
