SEOUL -- Naver, South Korea's top web portal operator, has released a mobile menu-ordering system for restaurants that allows customers to check the menu and directly order food without the need to wait for a waiter to come by and receive orders.
Naver said in a statement on Thursday that it released a one-stop table ordering service that allows customers to order food from their tables and make instant digital payments. The company said that the mobile ordering service would ease restaurant owners' stress by reducing the chance of receiving wrong orders.
"During the test service period, our Table ordering service has received positive feedback from shop owners by providing an effective shop-managing experience and from customers for providing a more convenient dining experience," Naver's reservation service division leader Lee Jong-min was quoted as saying.
According to the web portal giant, customers will get quick access to a restaurant's digital menu using QR code, a digital barcode, and choose the food they wish to order. When customers are finished selecting their menu, payments will be made via "Naver Pay", Naver's digital wallet.
Backed by its fast mobile network, South Korea's small and medium-sized businesses are adopting mobile connected restaurant services to increase the efficiency of stores and shopping experience. In July, the country's leading food delivery service operator Woowa Brothers opened a store backed by self-idling robots in southern Seoul.
