BTS pockets $51.6 mln in tour ticket sales in May to become world's top-grossing band

SEOUL -- BTS earned $51.6 million in ticket sales for stadium tour concerts in May, becoming the world's highest-grossing band in Billboard's monthly chart.

Billboard reported in its Top Tours chart for May that BTS sold $51.6 million worth of tickets for eight of its world tour concerts in May as the highest-grossing band in the world, far ahead of Metallica, a prestigious American heavy metal band which earned $23 million.

BTS attracted an audience of 384,498 fans to eight concerts in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Sao Paolo in May, according to Billboard.

"MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA" was the most sold physical album in the U.S with 312,000 units between January 4 and June 20, according to Nielsen Music, the music sales measurement division of global market research firm Nielsen.
