Singer IU makes surprise appearance at high school graduation to congratulate fan

SEOUL -- Singer-actress IU made a surprise appearance at a high school graduation ceremony to keep her promise with a fan four months ago. The fan was shocked because she did not expect the popular singer to come.

Photographs of IU visiting a girls school in Gimje, some 192 kilometers (119 miles) southwest of Seoul, have flooded online communities and social media. Instagram posts uploaded by students showed a gift package including flower bouquets made of freesia, a bar of chocolate, a cosmetics product and a mantle given to each graduate.

Students were especially moved by flower bouquets as IU attached messages wishing the best of luck. IU also held a special performance of "BBI BBI", her hit song. She also handed gifts to teachers. IU debuted as a solo singer in 2008 and became a favorite entertainer in the K-pop scene. She has released hit songs such as "Through the Night" and "Good Day".
