SEOUL -- South Korea's Hyundai auto group released the teaser image of its new concept vehicle "Elevate" with robotic legs that would allow users to drive, walk and climb over the treacherous terrain. Its design concept and prototype will be showcased on January 7 at 2019 CES in Las Vegas.
The walking car concept creates a new vehicle category, Ultimate Mobility Vehicle (UMV), Hyundai said in a statement posted on its website with the computer graphic image of its concept car. "Wheels with robotic legs allow users to drive, walk or even climb over the most treacherous terrain," it said.
The four-legged vehicle combines the power of robotics and EV technology "to take people where no vehicle has been before," the company said, adding Elevate would redefine the perception of Hyundai's vehicular mobility. It was developed by Hyundai's corporate venturing and open innovation business wing, Hyundai Cradle.
