SEOUL -- K-water, a state water resource development and management agency in South Korea, will develop a platform based on NASA's land information system (LIS) to collect water-related information and predict natural disasters such as floods and droughts.
K-water said it would sign an agreement with NASA Wednesday in the central city of Daejeon on implementing a project to establish the Korean version of LIS by 2020 that would be used to develop a platform.
The platform will be used to identify the status of major water resources, acquire various water-related information and detect green and red tides and vegetation change. LIS provides infrastructure for data integration and assimilation and operates on an ensemble of land surface models for extension over user-specified regional or global domains.
