Since a pair of Pungsan breed dogs named Songkang and Gomi, both born in 2017, arrived in South Korea on September 27, they have lived In Moon's residence together with two other dogs including a Pungsan dog and Tori, an adopted dog rescued from a dog meat farm. Tori has become the symbol of a social campaign to accelerate the adoption of abandoned dogs and cats.
Gomi gave birth to six white puppies last week, Moon tweeted on Monday, adding she might have been pregnant when North Korea sent her. "It is fortunate to have added six to two gifts. Like this, I hope inter-Korean relations will be the same."
Pungsan dogs were bred to hunt wild animals in the North's Kaema highlands. After a landmark inter-Korean summit in 2000, North Korea gifted two Pungsan dogs. After living in the presidential residence, they were moved to a zoo, where they gave birth to 15 puppies before dying at age 13.
