SEOUL -- Samsung SDS, the information technology wing of South Korea's Samsung group, has developed an anti-hacking cryptographic technology which can virtually block all sub-channel attacks aimed at stealing digital signatures.
Hackers force sub-channel attacks on digitally encrypted authentication devices such as IC chips on passports and credit cards to extract encrypted digital signature keys. The attackers can duplicate and manipulate stolen keys to make false transactions or perform other malicious actions.
Samsung SDS said in a statement on Monday that it has secured the technology that can completely cut off sub-channel attacks. "The sub-channel attack blocking technology can be applied to any fields which use encrypted digital signatures," a Samsung SDS official was quoted as saying.
Samsung SDS has published patents related to its new technology in the United States and Europe. The technology was showcased at Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems (CHES) 2018, an annual cryptographic technology conference, in Amsterdam last month.
