SEOUL -- Kia Motors, an affiliate of South Korea's top carmaker Hyundai Motor, will promote Stinger, its high-performance sports sedan, using an augmented reality (AR) feature of Messenger, a messenger service platform for Facebook users.
Kia Motors America (KMA) said in a statement Friday that it was the only carmaker chosen by Facebook to participate in the initial launch of Messenger's AR service. The carmaker will promote Stinger through Kian, the second-generation digital assistant for Facebook's messenger platform released in November last year.
"The addition of augmented reality into the Kia Bot for Facebook Messenger allows us to provide today’s car buyers with an extended interaction on the social platforms they use most," an unnamed KMA official was quoted as saying.
Consumers can place a 3D rendering of Stinger in their garage, driveway or other environments. Users are free to change colors so that they can see which color matches the environment. Rendered images can be shared through social media.
Stinger, a mid-sized four-door fastback sedan released in 2017, has received good reviews. Stinger comes with a 2.0-liter GDI turbo engine or a 3.3-liter GDI twin-turbo engine.
