Daewoo E&C secures $288 million fertilizer plant deal in Nigeria

SEOUL -- ​Daewoo Engineering and Construction, a Seoul-based builder, grabbed a 31 million won (288.5 million US dollars) order from an Indonesian petrochemical group to build a fertilizer plant in Nigeria.

The company said Friday that it had signed a contract with Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL), a Nigerian subsidiary of Indonesian petrochemical group Indorama Corporation, to construct a urea fertilizer plant in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Because its versatility and characteristics which has little or no fire-explosion hazard, urea fertilizers are used by farmers globally. Its high nitrogen content also makes the fertilizer easy to handle and store. The production process of urea fertilizers is relatively eco-friendly.

Daewoo said the new fertilizer plant will produce of 2,300 tons of ammonia and 4,000 tons of urea every day. This is the second time for Daewoo to receive an order from the Indonesian company. A consortium of Daewoo and Toyo Engineering Corp. built the world's largest single line urea plant in Nigeria six years ago.
