Local sunglass brand Gentle Monster was the best-selling brand among Chinese tourists who visited South Korea during China's National Holiday season, according to sales data released by Lotte Department Store.
Sales at Lotte, one of South Korea's leading department stores, rose 27 percent on year between September 29 to October 6 thanks to Chinese shoppers. More than 250,000 Chinese tourists visited South Korea during the period.
Gentle Monster sunglasses topped the list of Lotte's best-selling brands favored by Chinese shoppers. The South Korean brand has become a must-have item among Hallyu (Korean cultural wave) fans in China because some celebrities like Jun Ji-Hyun, Kim Woo-bin and the members of boy band SHINEE were seen wearing it.
Lotte Department said Yves Saint Laurent products were the second favorite, followed by Gucci. South Korean cosmetics brands Whoo and Sulwhasoo were fourth and fifth respectively.
