Chinese remake version of the hit drama "Descendants of the Sun" is confirmed by its producing company "NEW". The drama is currently experiencing phenomenal popularity over Asian countries,
According to CBS No Cut NEWS' report, an insider from NEW told the media that, "We are currently in talks with various countries regarding the remake of the drama. Among the countries, China has decided to do so."
"We are looking for partners in China to carry out the co-producing," the insider added, "We are unsure of whether the scenario will go through major changes since we are at the very beginning stages of producing."
Meanwhile, The hit drama is overwhelming the mainland China with its popularity. The drama had hit a milestone of 2 billion accumulated views.
Descendants of the Sun is being simultaneously broadcasted on iQiyi, the largest online video platform in China and it reached more than 2 billion views since its first broadcasting. Bliss Media, the PR agent of the drama told the press Wednesday "It is a very rare situation for a drama to hit 2 billion view counts while it is still on the air."
Considering that the population of China is estimated to be around 1.35 billion, the accumulated view count is amazing. The 16-episode drama series is recording more than 100 million view counts per episode.
The hit drama is recognized as the next "Hallyu" (Korean Wave) in China. Many experts suspect the phenomenal the drama brought to the mainland is because of its superb quality, backed by a firm and attractive plot. Also, the main actor and actress Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo are already famous figures in China, making the viewers easier to be immersed in the drama.
