A towering statue of Chinese god of war Guan Yu (220 AD – 280 AD), which weighs approximately 1,200 tons, is under way of its construction. A part of its colossal figure had been revealed.

People’s Daily reported on Friday that the statue of the god of war will soon be fully constructed, and will be recorded the heaviest statue in the world of fabled general. Guan Yu, a famous general from the classic Chinese novel “Romance of Three Kingdoms”, is a popular figure among Chinese.

The scaffoldings surrounding the statue is being removed, and the 58-meter tall figure will reveal itself soon. The statue is placed in Jinzhou, central China’s Henan province.

Guan Yu was a general serving under warlord Liu Bei in the Eastern Han dynasty. He is well known for his loyalty and ferocity in the battlefields. After his death, Chinese serve him as a deity and worshipped the late warrior. Shrines of Guan Yu are common to see in China, as the nation’s people believe the god of war brings them good fortune.
