The Korea Football Association (KFA) said Friday it will announce the South Korean squad’s roster for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil on May 8, a day earlier than originally scheduled.

The final roster will consist of 23 players.

Players chosen should participate in a training session which is set to start on May 12 at the National Football Center in Paju, north of Seoul, the country’s football governing body said.

The national soccer team’s head coach, Hong Myung-bo, has decided not to make public a provisional World Cup roster composed of 30 players, and will reveal the final team only, the KFA said.

The KFA should submit the provisional roster to the FIFA no later than May 13.

South Korea is scheduled to play in Group H at the 2014 World Cup alongside Algeria, Belgium and Russia. South Korea ranks 56th in the FIFA world rankings. Belgium places 12th, whereas Russia and Algeria rank 18th and 25th, respectively.

South Korea will play its final pre-World Cup match against Tunisia at home on May 28.

Then, the national team will set up a camp in Miami before flying to Brazil.

The 20th World Cup will take place in the South American country from June 12 to July 13.
