U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew met with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin on Wednesday (local time), according to news reports.

The meeting came a few hours after that Germany's trade surplus, according to official data, widened in November.

Germany has long been criticized by the United States and other countries for not importing enough to boost other eurozone economies.

During Wednesday’s meeting, Schaeuble argued that Germany's trade surplus helps the eurozone's export performance, the reports said.

Lew visited Germany on a trip that also took him to France and bailed-out Portugal.
