Beijing Hyundai Motor, a 50-50 joint-venture between Hyundai Motor and Beijing Automotive Group, began selling the Avante HD, named the Yuedong, in China in April 2008.
Company officials attributed the success to Hyundai's thorough analysis on Chinese conumers' preferences.
Hyundai carried out surveys collecting information about Chinese consumers' preferences, and developed models that fit their demands, they said.
The name of the car, Yuedong, means joyful driving. Yue means joy, while dong means movement.
