Nine North Koreans arrived in the South on Thursday claiming refugee status.

“They arrived late Thursday at the port of Gunsan after crossing the Yellow Sea from China” said Yonhap news agency quoting unnamed sea police official.

The two sides have yet to resolve the issue of 31 North Koreans whose boat drifted across the dispute Yellow Sea Border in thick fog last month. Four of the groups have stayed after requesting refugee status.

More than 20,000 North Koreans fleeing their impoverished homeland have arrived in the South since the end of the Korean War.
