SEOUL -- Girl Band NewJeans will participate in South Korea's major fashion event "Seoul Fashion Week" as a global ambassador. The five-member band will promote the biannual event, featuring 21 South Korean brands, at its fashion show.
The fashion event, organized by Seoul City, is scheduled for five days starting on February 1. A total of 68 fashion brands will engage in a trade exhibition where they can interact with 101 overseas buyers from 23 countries including a British luxury department store chain Harvey Nichols.
Seoul said NewJeans will take part in the official photo call for the "2024 Fall/Winter edition of Seoul Fashion Week." A photo call is a special session in which participants attend to be photographed by the media for publicity purposes. The festival will take place at the Dongdaemun Digital Plaza (DDP), a design and arts center in the heart of Seoul, and S-Factory, a culture complex in Seongsu, a vibrant fashion district in eastern Seoul. It will be live streamed through Seoul Fashion Week's official YouTube channel.
Seoul has revealed its ambitious plan to gain a competitive advantage over four major global fashion weeks -- New York, London, Milan, and Paris. "The Seoul Fashion Week will become a global fashion business platform for K-fashion brands that are already engaged or possessing the potential to enter the global fashion market," Seoul’s economic policy bureau head Lee Hae-woo said in a statement on January 30.
Meanwhile, NewJeans was selected in an honoree list for the "2024 Billboard Women In Music Awards." Group members will receive Billboard's trophy given to influential women in the music scene in Los Angeles on March 6. The sister band of BTS, which debuted in July 2022, has gained recognition for its outstanding dance performances and singing skills. The group's popular dance songs include Attention, Ditto, and OMG.
