SEOUL -- "Super Shy," a summer-themed song by girl band NewJeans, was ranked seventh among this year's top 100 songs by American online music publication Pitchfork. The track is the only Korean language-based song chosen in the online magazine's top 100 songs list. Pitchfork is a prominent online music magazine with more than seven million monthly loyal readers.

"Zero-to-hero anthem 'Super Shy' is the daydream wafting through the mind of an overlooked heroine while she eyes the most popular boy in school," Pitchfork said on December 4. The music magazine highlighted the five members of the group, noting their "quiet confidence" as they planned to pleasantly surprise their loved one. Pitchfork acknowledged Erika de Casier, a Portugal-born Danish singer who was in charge of the melody production of the song.

Super Shy, released on July 7, maintained its presence on the Hot 100, Billboard's weekly song chart that ranks the top 100 popular songs. The track secured the sixth position among the 100 best songs of 2023 by American magazine Rolling Stone and third among the 20 best songs of this year by the Guardian, a daily newspaper based in Britain.

NewJeans, debuted in July 2022, has gained recognition for its outstanding dance performances and singing skills across various genres, including R&B and hip hop. The prominent girl group is under the guidance of Min Hee-jin, a genius idol incubator who planned concepts for SM Entertainment like Girls' Generation, f(x), and Red Velvet.
