"We are reviewing M&A opportunities in the component and finished product sectors," Samsung's digital experience division vice chairman Han Jong-hee told reporters without disclosing details on January 6.
Regarding the electric (EV) vehicle market, Han said that he has been asked a lot of questions lately about Samsung's future plans for the rapidly growing green energy vehicle market. "We will see and let you know when things are decided." Samsung later officially made clear that the company has no plans for the EV market.
The Samsung vice president also hinted at the possibility of being supplied with LG Display's organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display panels for the company for Samsung's new quantum-dot OLED TV lineup. "We have previously purchased display panels from LG whenever we were short of display components," Han said, adding: "We are open for every opportunity regarding OLED panel purchases."
Han also said that the shortage of micro light-emitting diode (LED) TVs and their components were prompted by a coronavirus pandemic. "Because we were mainly producing TV products in Vietnam, we could not manufacture business-to-business products." The vice chairman said that the supply of micro LED TVs will return to its normal capacity in May when the premium TVs are manufactured at factories in Mexico and Slovakia.
Samsung's smartphone division head Roh Tae-moon said that the company is honing its capabilities targeting the Chinese market by establishing a specially dedicated task force team.
