EV6 shared E-GMP, a dedicated battery platform used for IONIQ 5, a utility vehicle unveiled by Hyundai in February. E-GMP is the auto group's battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform. Unlike other ordinary electric vehicles with a battery system and an electric motor put on a conventional vehicle platform instead of an internal combustion engine and a powertrain, E-GMP is dedicated to full EVs.
Kia released images of EV6 that underlined its new design philosophy, "Opposites United," which takes inspiration from the contrasts found in nature and humanity. "With EV6 we aimed to create a distinctive, impactful design by using a combination of sophisticated, high-tech features on pure and rich volumes while providing a unique space as a futuristic EV," said Kia's global design center head Karim Habib.
“We want our products to deliver an instinctive and natural experience that improves the daily lives of our customers," Habib said in a statement on March 15. EV6’s interior design profiles an innovative use of space, creating a unique spatial and driving experience, Kia said, describing a curved high-definition audiovisual and navigation screen as a striking element of the interior.
The company said the simple form language of the wide curved screen and a slim dashboard give the space an open feel. Extending from the steering wheel across to the center, the screen displays an instrument cluster in front of the driver, and infotainment and navigation above the center console, Kia said, adding the screen creates an immersive experiencer, with a minimal number of physical buttons offering an uncluttered and soothing driving experience.
Passengers control heating, ventilation and air conditioning settings by using haptic buttons. Seats are slim and lightweight and use ecycled plastics for robust fabrics.
At the front of EV6, characteristic daytime running lights display a sleek, modern appearance, while the design of lamps includes a sequential dynamic light pattern. Below this, a low air intake visually widens the front, accentuating its high-tech image, Kia said. A swept-back windshield provides dynamism and purpose, while bold rear haunches add volume. A character line runs along the bottom of the doors curving upwards towards the rear wheel arches.
The rear displays a sloping rear C-pillar with an integrated black glossy insert which visually widens the window glass. Above this sits a prominent roof spoiler that channels air downwards towards a raised lower spoiler which sits atop the car’s unique rear light cluster.
